UPPER YEAR REPS

Darya Levitsky

(she/her)

Hi I'm Darya and I'm your upper year rep for 2025-2026! I'm in my 5th year specializing in Forensic Psychology, and I'm interested in how our criminal justice system processes forensic populations while balancing autonomy and fairness. To be honest, I didn't fully understand what the program was about was when I applied out of high school, but I knew that I liked learning about crime. It's been the best choice I've made, and I want to give back to the same community that made my experience enjoyable! As a year rep I'm excited to create fun opportunities that brings the forensic student community together. Having been at UTM during COVID restrictions, I fully understand how isolating and boring campus can be. So, from fun socials to connecting with profs, I hope you guys come out to make new friends, strengthen current ones and enjoy everything this program has to offer!

Vanessa Mior

(she/her)

Hi everyone! My name is Vanessa Mior (she/her), and I’m a fourth-year Forensic Psychology specialist. I’m beyond excited to serve as one of your fourth-year representatives for the IVNVI Forensic Society this year!

Being part of IVNVI means joining a community that celebrates our shared passion for all things forensics, while also creating meaningful friendships and unforgettable memories. This year, we have so many exciting events, workshops, and opportunities to connect with one another. Whether you’re looking to expand your knowledge, meet like-minded peers, or simply have fun between classes, there's something for everyone!

As a fellow student navigating these challenging yet rewarding courses, I hope to help foster a supportive environment where we can all learn, grow, and thrive together. Let’s make this year one to remember and continue building a strong, inclusive forensic community at UTM!

Jia Bawa

(she/her)

Hi, I’m Jia, a fourth-year Forensic Psychology student, fascinated by how science, behaviour, and law intersect to uncover truth and promote justice. What excites me most about forensics is its balance between analytical thinking and human understanding: using evidence and psychology together to explore why people act the way they do.

For me, forensic psychology isn’t just about studying cases or behavioural patterns; it’s about examining the deeper psychological factors that shape morality, decision-making, and identity. It connects theory to lived experience and reminds us that behind every action is a human story.

I’m excited to be a Year Representative because I want to help others discover that same fascination; to see forensic psychology not simply as an academic field, but as a way of thinking that fosters empathy and critical reflection. To me, being part of this community means encouraging students to look beyond the surface of human behaviour, to question what drives our actions, and to appreciate the depth and complexity of the mind. I hope to help create spaces where students feel connected, inspired, and reminded of the profound humanity at the heart of forensics.

THIRD YEAR REPS

Crystal Widbur

(she/her)

Hi everyone! I’m Crystal, and I am one of your third-year representatives! I go by she/her pronouns, and I am in the forensic biology specialist with a minor in anthropology. I am thrilled to be part of the year rep team once again, and I look forward to all the fun events and opportunities we’ll share this year! A little bit about myself is that I have been passionate about forensic science for as long as I can remember. Growing up with my dad as a police officer, he has continuously fuelled my love and passion for forensics and is, time after time, my source of inspiration. Please feel free to reach out or say hi! And if you ever want to talk about true crime, forensic science, or my favourite DC character, who also happens to be a forensic scientist, Barry Allen, I’m always up for a chat.

Amy Pierik

(she/her)

Hi everyone, my name is Amy and I’m in the forensic anthropology specialist. I’m one of the third-year representatives and am super excited to be a part of IVNVI this year! I’m looking forward to planning all sorts of events to help bring together forensics students from all disciplines!

I’ve always been super interested in forensic sciences and CSI, and I’m excited to get more involved in the forensics community on campus! Feel free to direct any questions you have to me, I’m more than happy to help!

Emmeline Wong

(she/her)

Hey everyone! I'm Emmy, and I'm excited to be one of IVNVI's Year Representatives! I'm a 3rd-year-student doing a Double Major in Forensics and Biology. As a Year Rep, I can't wait to help plan exciting upcoming IVNVI events and create fun opportunities for students to connect with both the IVNVI and the Forensics Faculty. Like many of you, I became interested in forensics by watching true crime, reading murder mysteries, and listening to crime podcasts. What I love about forensics is that there's always something new to learn, it's so interesting, and so much fun. I'm eager to meet students who are just as excited about forensics as I am!

SECOND YEAR REPS

Laila Kemmous

(she/her)

Hello hello! I'm Laila, one of the IVNVI's second-year reps for the 2025-2026 academic year. I am currently specializing in forensic psychology with the high aspiration of pursuing forensic toxicology. My interest in the field initially began through frequently attending IVNVI events to accompany a friend. I was drawn to the members' welcoming atmosphere and passion, which encouraged my own developing interest in the subject. Even though I am still discovering all that the field has to offer, I am eager to learn more. The forensics community is one of UofT's gems, with so much to offer to even those who don't have an interest in forensics. Even though I am still discovering all that the field has to offer, I am excited to be part of the IVNVI as a year rep. I hope to elicit a comparable experience to my own life-altering one for others!

Hajrah Qaiser

(she/her)

Hey guys! My name is Hajrah (She/her) and I’m so excited to be the 2nd year representative for the IVNVI! I’m currently pursuing a double major in Forensic science and Biology, with a minor in Functional French studies. My favourite tv show character would have to be Emily Prentiss from Criminal Minds.

I’m super excited about the opportunity to be a year rep because (as cheesy as it sounds) I absolutely love being part of the forensic science community at UTM. Forensics is such a unique program, and being surrounded by people who share this same curiosity motivates me every day. As a year rep, I want to channel the love and passion I have for forensics into creating a stronger sense of community among forensic students. I’ve seen how isolating university can feel at times, especially in a demanding program like ours, so I want to help bridge those gaps and make every forensic student feel seen, supported, and connected. I’m excited to help plan events that can offer students some lighthearted fun, and make our small but mighty program feel even more united.

Manaal Ahmed

(she/her)

Hi! My name is Manaal (she/her), and I’m in my second year of the Forensic Anthropology program and a second-year representative for the IVNVI. I’m excited about being a year rep because it gives me the opportunity to participate in fun events, bond with faculty and students, and get more involved with the Forensics community.

Most of all, I’m looking forward to meeting all of the wonderful people in the program and having a super fun year :)

FIRST YEAR REPS

Becky Harrison

(she/her)

I come from a small countryside town near Ottawa, and I am a proud francophone of Ontario. As a recipient of the Loran Foundation award, I bring a deep sense of purpose and leadership to everything  I do. I am thrilled to serve as the first-year representative of the IVNVI Forensics Society, where I hope to amplify student voices and foster a dynamic, inclusive community. When I was asked to choose my career path in 8th grade, I knew I had a passion for uncovering the truth through science to help solve crimes and a dream of becoming a coroner. Now, as a first-year student majoring in forensic science biology, I’m excited to explore the intersection of molecular evidence and investigative work. As first-year representative, my goal is to spark curiosity and connection by launching fresh, innovative events that engage students from all backgrounds. I might be small in stature, but my creativity knows no bounds, and I can’t wait to turn those ideas into unforgettable experiences!

Emilia Madala

(she/her)

Hello, everyone! I'm Emilia (she/her) and I am beyond excited to be one of your First Year Reps in the IVNVI! I'm currently a first year Forensic Sciences student, looking to specialize in Forensic Anthropology.

My love for forensics started at a young age when I read the stories of Sherlock Holmes, who is still my favourite fictional forensic scientist/detective. The puzzle pieces fitting together at the end of the story to solve the mystery always fascinated me. I’m interested in using scientific methods to help make a more just society and making advancements in forensics that can improve our justice system.

As a First Year Rep, I’m eager to contribute to the Forensic community and create a supportive space for everyone. I'm looking forward to connecting with fellow forensics enthusiasts, so if you have any suggestions or questions, I’d love to hear them!

I hope to see all of you at our events this year!

Christie Yu

(she/they)

Hi everyone! My name is Christie Yu, but most people call me Chris, and I'm aiming for the Forensic Psychology program. My pronouns are she/they and I'm excited to serve as a First Year Representative for the IVNVI team. I don't necessarily have a favourite forensics TV character, but I've always enjoyed shows that highlight the various sub-disciplines of forensics (though not always accurate), such as Dexter and Criminal Minds. I've always been fascinated by how science can be applied across other disciplines, and learning how careful observation and critical thinking can uncover hidden details. Even though I'm just starting out in forensics, I'm eager to explore all aspects of the field and share that excitement with my peers. As year representative, I hope to help organize engaging activities and ensure that every student feels encouraged to explore their interests in forensics. I'm excited to learning from others while bringing my own energy, creativity, and dedication to the role. I can't wait to contribute to making this year a meaningful and inspiring experience for all of us!
